This week we are looking at the many different types of makeup brushes available for your face and skin. Part 2 will be focused specifically on Eyes and Lips.
Makeup is an art form. Each color and stroke choice you make is a definite act towards getting the perfect look. There are varieties of makeup brushes available in the market from different brands. But most women don’t know which makeup brush to use for what purpose. Here is a short and informative description to improve your knowledge with using variety of makeup brushes.
1. Foundation Brush: This brush is designed to use with cream or liquid foundation and provides a smooth and flawless finish.
It has a flat structure and rounded tip with buffed edges. Its bristles are densely packed with a tapered tip for fluid application.
Simply dampen the brush in warm water and firmly squeeze the excess into a towel or tissue. This will help achieve a more even distribution. Apply liquid foundation in dots in the needed areas and use the brush to blend outwards.
2. Concealer Brush: The concealer brush is great if you are using cream based concealer. It helps you cover and conceal any discoloration problem areas such as acne and blemishes perfectly. It can be used alternatively to get rid of messy lipstick edges.
Use a small, synthetic brush to pinpoint specific areas that need extra coverage.The slightly longer hairs are good for flexible application, and for blending all types of concealer formulations, whether they are cream or liquid.
Smear a small amount of the concealer on the area, and use the brush to draw downwards, smoothing for even coverage.
3. Powder/Bronzer Brush: This brush is perfect for the application of both compact powder and bronzer to give your face a professional touched smooth finish. The long, fluffy bristles evenly diffuse loose powders.
You can choose from big or small variants of brushes. The small ones help you to apply powder in and around your eye area while the bigger ones help you apply powder onto your cheeks, chin, and forehead and along the top of your nose bone.
Dust your brush with a small amount of powder/bronzer and shake away any excess before applying onto the skin. Line up the slant with the angle of your cheek to finely enhance the cheekbones.
4. Kabuki Brush: This big brush is perfect for evenly distributing mineral powders across your face or body.
With a short stem and dense bristles, the kabuki brush is superior to a powder brush in terms of holding the mineral powder for wide-spread coverage.
Dip into loose powder and tap the excess into the lid. Then dust all over the face in round motions for an airbrushed finish.
5. Angled Blush Brush: It is great for applying blusher products perfectly to your cheekbones. Alternatively, you can also use it to apply contour powder (two shades darker than your skin tone) below your cheekbones to emphasize your natural contours.
Made with fine, gentle fibers, the blusher brush has a fluffy and rounded head which is perfect for giving a pop of color to the apples of your cheeks. The slanted bristles make it easier to apply products flawlessly to your cheekbones.
Blusher needs to be applied very lightly with gentle strokes on to cheek hollows or on to the cheeks apples with gentle circular touch.
6. Fan Brush: It has the fan-like structure which removes excess powder on the face, particularly after eyeshadow application. It also sweeps away any harsh lines left by bronzer or blusher for the soft and velvety effect.
Here are some useful tips:
- Good quality makeup brushes can be expensive because they are made from high quality fibres. You can either purchase all of your brushes from your favorite brand or mix and match those you prefer to get better value.
- Be sure to wash your brushes after every 2 applications if you use regularly or after every use if you are rare with your brushes. Use a baby shampoo for cleaning your brushes. Dry them completely before using again. Don’t sun dry your brushes.
